Operations Research – Intern – Renewable Energy Start-up

Summary:
Just Energy develops, owns and operates commercial scale solar energy systems in the northeastern United States. Just Energy is a rapidly growing, early stage company that employs innovative financing structures to help businesses achieve meaningful savings while embracing renewable energy. Using proven technology and on-site generation, the company supplies a material portion of clients’ long-term energy needs at a cost substantially below retail electricity rates.
Just Energy is seeking an MBA from a top-tier business school for a full-time, three month internship. The position entails using quantitative and qualitative operational tools to evaluate and then devise efficient, systematic procedures for developing solar projects.
Position Expectations:
The candidate will be responsible for conducting operational analyses and developing sophisticated operational frameworks for Just Energy. Considerable maturity and flexibility are required, as well as the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing, start-up environment. Merit-based opportunities for additional responsibility will present themselves given the rapid pace of growth experienced by the company.
Responsibilities will include:
• Creating far-reaching project management operational systems
• Dissecting Just Energy’s current existing operational processes and streamlining them
• Developing a deep understanding of distributed generation project development
• Writing and presenting clear, well-researched strategic proposals to the CEO and Board of Directors
Specific Job Skills:
• Exceptional operations development and engineering skills
• Superb research and due-diligence aptitude
• Excellent writing and communications ability
• Capacity to rapidly learn and assimilate new information
• Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail
• Proven ability to meet project deadlines
• An entrepreneurial, can-do attitude
• Familiarity with the solar industry a plus
Experience and Education Requirements:
• MBA from a leading institution
• 3+ years of experience in the financial services, renewable energy or related industries
• Experience developing operational models
• Experience with quantitative aspects of creating process management systems
Other Information:
The role requires a full-time, 5 days per week commitment for 3 to 4 months.
